Programme overview

A hands-on programme that takes welders from fundamentals to qualified GTAW performance on pipe and plate in stainless, low-alloy and nickel-alloy grades. Trainees weld production-representative coupons throughout and finish by attempting an ASME Section IX qualification test.

What you will be able to do

  • Set up and operate GTAW equipment safely and correctly
  • Select filler metals, shielding gases and purge techniques by material grade
  • Weld 6G pipe joints to ASME Section IX acceptance criteria
  • Identify, prevent and rectify common weld defects
  • Interpret WPS, PQR and WQT documentation

ITI Welder / 10th pass with a minimum of one year of welding experience.

Assessment

Continuous practical assessment, a written examination and a final competency test.
